1. Can we hold parties in our dormitory rooms? Or can I return to my dormitory at any time at night?
This is not allowed because it may negatively affect other students in the dormitory. The dormitory should remain quiet at all times. Our school as set up an auto-lock front gate system. It is open from 6:00-23:00. Students can swipe their campus student card to enter, after 11pm it is no longer possible to unlock the gate.
2. If I want to attend the HSK test, where and when do I register?
Beginner and intermediate level test takers can go to the administrative office for foreign students studying in China (Laboratory Building S114 to register) in April, May and November of each year. You can take the test one month after registering. The advance level test can only be registered for in May of every year.
3. Can I do a part-time job?
This is not allowed. In accordance with policy, foreigners who come to China to study are not allowed to work in China without special permission from a Chinese government institution. Otherwise a fine of upwards of 1000rmb may be given and in more serious cases may be forced to leave China within a certain period of time.
4. If I lost my passport, what shall I do?
Please go to the Nanchang City Police Bureau for Immigration and Emigration Affairs immediately to report the missing passport. The Police institution will give the owner of the lost passport “proof of lost passport documentation”, which can be used to apply for a new passport at the consulate or embassy in China. After receiving a new passport please to back to the same Police Bureau to reapply for visa or residence permit.
5. Where can I photocopy, print or send and receive faxes?
The No. 7, 1, and 3 dormitories, as well as the Changshengyuan building all have photocopy and print shops. You can also send and receive faxes there.

7. How do I ship packages?
The south east side of the library has a China Post which can send EMS express packages. There are also many other courier companies in the No. 1 dormitory, such as Zhongtong, Yuantong, Shunfeng, and Shentong courier companies.
8. Going to the hospital
You must bring your passport when going to the hospital. For most situations the campus hospital should be sufficient for your needs. If the matter is more serious, you can go to a larger hospital such as the No. 2 Provincial People’s Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University and the Second Affiliated Hospital etc.
Foreign students must purchase comprehensive insurance, which is used to pay for medical fees in the case of an accident. The campus emergency’s phone number is 88120120. For more serious situations, you can also directly call the public emergency’s phone number at 120.
9. Transportation
1) Taking a taxi: The starting price is 8RMB (within 2km), afterwards the price becomes 2.3RMB per km.
2) Public bus: The second bridge entrance (Wangcheng gate) has bus 208. Directly across from the third bridge (Changsheng gate) has buses 220 and 308(at night). If traveling to the Qingshan Lake campus, you can take the 208 outer or inner routes, bus 220 or a taxi to get there.
3) Subway: Take the No.1 line subway by entering at the Tianxiang avenue station (the south western outer corner of campus).The subway here can travel to the city center (The starting price is 2RMB).
4) Traveling by bicycle in the city is safe and convenient. You can buy a bicycle at almost any shopping plaza.
10. I have an international driving license so can I ride a motorcycle in China?
This is not possible. Only after receiving the “motorcycle license of the People’s Republic of China”, it is possible to ride a motorcycle in mainland China.
11. If I was attacked by someone/some people off campus, what shall I do?
You can call 110 to get assistance from the police. At the same time you should tell your classmates and teachers to get help.
